Kollywood has recovered well from the pandemic and the year kick-started with a bang with two Pongal releases 'Master' and 'Eswaran'. The industry picked up the pace, and there have been continuous big theatrical releases. But few movies postponed their release due to delays in production and theater availability. 'Valimai'

Ajith's 'Valimai' is one of the long-awaited Tamil films, and the director had waited for a long time to complete an action sequence abroad. As he desired, the director completed the film shooting after a short foreign schedule, but it delayed the film's process. So, the film failed to release this year. However, the film is set for a grand theatrical release for Pongal.

'Ponniyin Selvan'

Mani Ratnam's 'Ponniyin Selvan' is a prestigious project for the director, and he is calmly building a perfect historical drama, which is planned to be released in two parts. Due to the pandemic situation and stars' availability, Mani Ratnam had completed shooting for both the parts as a whole, and it caused the film to miss hitting the big screens. The first part of the film is now set to be released in April 2022, and the work for it is going on steadily.

'Etharkkum Thunindhavan'

Suriya has joined hands with director Pandiraj for 'Etharkkum Thunindhavan', and the film shooting was wrapped up a month ago after a gap. The film was expected to hit the big screens in December, but the makers have pushed the release to February. However, the expectations for the film haven't gone down, and it keeps on mounting.

'Don'

Sivakarthikeyan's 'Don', which is directed by debutant Cibi Chakravarthy, has been completed well before, and the post-production work is happening steadily. But the delay in the release of Sivakarthikeyan's 'Doctor' pushed 'Don' to next year, and the makers are eying Valentine's day weekend to release the romantic drama.

'Cobra'

Chiyaan Vikram's 'Cobra' was initially planned to be released in Summer 2022, but the film work was affected because of the pandemic spread. The film was then expected to be released in 2021, but the film shooting was again delayed due to production issues, and the film shooting is not completed yet. Now, the film is expected to release in Summer 2022 as it involves a lot of graphical works.
