Reports suggest that the title of 'Thalapathy 69' has been carefully selected to align with Vijay's upcoming political journey. Actor Vijay, who is currently running a political party, is said to be making his final appearance in Tamil cinema with a film, directed by H. Vinoth. The upcoming biggie stars Pooja Hegde as the female lead, alongside 'Premam' fame Mamitha Baiju, Bobby Deol, Prakash Raj, Priyamani, Gautham Menon, and Teejay Arunachalam in key roles. According to Thanthi TV, the title of 'Thalapathy 69' has significant meaning. Vijay debuted as a hero in the film 'Naalaiya Theerpu'', directed by his father, S. A. Chandrasekhar. Since Vijay announced that he would be leaving cinema to focus on politics, the team decided to name 'Thalapathy 69' as 'Naalaiya Theerpu', symbolically indicating the start of his political journey.

Filming for 'Thalapathy 69' began in October 2024 and is expected to wrap up by this March. The movie is slated for release in October 2025, and a military set was recently erected for shooting some key scenes. This set is also reportedly being used for the first look and poster shoot. Sources indicate that the first poster will be unveiled on January 26, Republic Day. Fans are eagerly awaiting an official announcement about this development.

Additionally, it has been almost confirmed that 'Thalapathy 69' is a remake of the Telugu film 'Bhagavanth Kesari', starring Nandamuri Balakrishna in the lead role. Vijay reportedly watched 'Bhagavanth Kesari' five times and was deeply impressed by its theme of women's empowerment. It is said that he urged director Vinoth to helm the Tamil remake. Vijay’s recent look for the film bears a striking resemblance to Balakrishna’s appearance in 'Bhagavanth Kesari'. Notably, remakes of Telugu films have previously brought Vijay massive success in his career, and he is optimistic that this trend will continue with 'Thalapathy 69'.
