When Thalapathy Vijay confessed about his teenage crushes: “I was in 10th class”
Thalapathy Vijay has been a love-stricken young man on screen multiple times. Be it 'Kushi,' 'Kaadhalukku Mariyadhai,' or 'Love Today,' the actor has made our hearts skip a beat with his earnest portrayals of love. Turns out, the romantic hero had fluttering first crushes in real life too!
Vijay, who rarely discusses his personal life, once opened up about his teenage crushes. Back in 2011, when he was promoting his film 'Kaavalan,' Vijay revealed the unfinished love stories from his school days. Yes, that’s right! No wonder he nails on-screen romance!
During the promotional event, Vijay revealed that he had a serious crush while in school. “It started when I was in the 10th class itself. I used to get attracted to girls and had crushes,” he told the media, as reported by IBT.
Contrary to his on-screen persona, Vijay didn’t pursue any of them. According to him, he was “silent” and never expressed his feelings, so none of it came to fruition.
But these experiences in his formative years surely taught him valuable lessons about love, emotions, and relationships. In fact, these unexpressed emotions later helped him authentically portray love-struck characters in movies. When filmmakers approached him with romantic films, he knew what young love felt like. Vijay has expressed that it helped him in his performances. He admitted that such experiences helped him portray characters with authenticity: “Yes, in the beginning stages for films like ‘Love Today,’ ‘Poove Unakkaga,’ and ‘Thulladha Manamum Thullum.’”
Not just that, Vijay likely drew from real-life moments. For instance, remember the scene where his character sneaks to the bus stop to catch glimpses of his crush in 'Love Today'? Guess why the scene feels so perfect? Of course, it is drawn from similar life experiences!
Meanwhile, on the work front, Vijay is currently awaiting the release of 'Jana Nayagan,' which marks his last film before he completely transitions to politics. The film’s release date has yet to be confirmed following the censor row. Several unconfirmed reports suggest that the makers are eyeing a June 2026 release.Get the latest entertainment updates from the Times of India, along with the latest Hindi movies, upcoming Hindi movies in 2026 , and Telugu movies.”
