When Ajith Kumar revealed that he does not like punch dialogue-laden films: ‘Only Rajinikanth can spout such…’

Kollywood star Ajith Kumar once shared that people do not like him delivering punch dialogues on screen and spoke about how much he values his fans' love and criticism. While promoting his 2007 film 'Billa', a remake of Rajinikanth’s classic—which itself was inspired by Amitabh Bachchan’s Don—he opened up about his movie choices.

In an old interview with Jaya TV, Ajith spoke about his highs and lows in the industry. He believes that, just like a mother-son relationship, a fan-actor relationship is also unconditional. According to him, a fan never expects anything in return from their favourite star. He shared that he is genuinely grateful for their love and that the only thing he can do for them is to make ‘quality’ films.



Ajith also addressed his disinterest in the mass-entertainer formula, which often relies on punch dialogues. “I don’t like those kinds of dialogues. I don’t believe in them either. See, with all due respect to everyone, only Rajinikanth sir can spout such dialogues while looking straight at the camera,” he admitted, reinforcing his belief that actors must evolve with the changing landscape of cinema. He cited films like Mugavaree, which he considers his best work, alongside Kireedam, Vaali, Varalaaru, and Villain—all of which explored different genres and resonated well with audiences.

The 'Thunivu' actor noted that his attempts at commercial potboilers did not always receive the expected response. “When I tried punch dialogue-heavy films, they weren’t received well. Fans didn’t want it,” he said.

Ajith is now gearing up for the release of his next film, 'Good Bad Ugly', directed by Adhik Ravichandran.
