In the last few years, Kollywood has seen filmmakers’ short films proving to be a stepping stone for them in the industry. From Balaji Mohan and Karthik Subbaraj to Arun Kumar and R Ravikumar, the examples are aplenty. Now, making his foray into the big screen because of his acclaimed short is
Thu Pa Saravanan. He will be directing his first feature with
Vishal in the lead, and the movie will go on floors by mid-April.
A source says, “Vishal had seen Saravanan’s award-winning short film, Edhu Thevaiyo Adhuve Dharmam, last year and was highly impressed with his style of filmmaking and narration. So, he called for a meeting, and when Saravanan — who has worked as an assistant in films like Kullanari Koottam and Thaen — narrated this script, Vishal immediately gave his nod. The yet-untitled film is about an ordinary man from a middle-class family questioning the authorities for abusing their powers. The film will be shot entirely in Chennai from this month.”
Yuvan Shankar Raja is handling the music, while Balasubramaniem has been roped in as the cinematographer.
