Novelist and autorickshaw driver M Chandra Kumar, whose novel Lock Up inspired director Vetri Maaran to make Visaranai, helped a woman deliver a baby recently in Coimbatore. It is said that Chandrakumar was on his way to distribute food to migrant labourers when he was informed about a woman in labour pain. Her husband had approached the Communist Part of India (CPI) asking for help. Chandra Kumar, too rushed to the spot and seeing no woman around, helped the woman deliver the baby. The ambulance had arrived by then.
His daughter Jeeva shared on his FB page, “Meanwhile the doctor asked dad to hold the placental cord tightly to cut it ,after that they clipped it safely too. Then the doctor took a deep breath and ask people to bring a white cloth. Then in order to remove the cord from the women, dad asked me to hold the baby, I took a step closer to hold the baby, saw the tiny cute face with full of blood and suddenly I heard his first cry [sic].” Interestingly, another novel of Chandran Azhagu is about a woman delivering a baby in his autorickshaw.
