Vijay Sethupathi starrer 'Maharaja' becomes the most-viewed Indian movie on OTT in 2024

Vijay Sethupathi's starrer ‘Maharaja’ has made waves at the box office since its release on June 14, garnering wide appreciation from critics and audiences alike. Directed by Nithilan Swaminathan, the film made its OTT debut on July 12. Now, the makers have officially announced that the movie is the most-viewed Indian film on Netflix in 2024. Within just six weeks, ‘Maharaja’ achieved this record, surpassing Kiran Rao's ‘Laapataa Ladies’ and the Tabu, Kareena Kapoor, and Kriti Sanon starrer ‘Crew’.

The makers took to their official Twitter handle on August 21 to share the news with a poster stating, “A Blockbuster everywhere �� #Maharaja becomes the most-viewed Indian movie on @NetflixIndia in 2024.” According to Gulte, the Vijay Sethupathi starrer has become the most-watched film on Netflix, racking up 18.6 million views. In comparison, films like ‘Crew’ and ‘Laapataa Ladies’ have garnered 17.9 million and 17.1 million views, respectively.

‘Maharaja’ also features Anurag Kashyap, Mamta Mohandas, Natarajan Subramaniam, Abhirami Gopikumar, Singampuli, Aruldoss, and Munishkanth in key roles. As per Economic Times, the movie grossed more than Rs 100 crores worldwide and earned Rs 60 crores from Tamil Nadu alone within five days of its release.
