Debutant director Manimaran, who has worked as codirector in films like Kalavani, Vaagai Sooda Vaa and Sardar, is shooting a psycho crime thriller titled 'Viper' that stars Vidaarth in the lead. The film, he states, will present the police in a realistic manner, and narrate how the department deals with a case.
“The title has two meanings. One is a reference to the viper snake, which has a tendency to go after its attacker viciously not caring about its safety.
Vidaarth plays such a character — a policeman who thinks from the victim’s point of view and doesn’t mind breaking rules or even putting himself in danger,” says Manimaran.
Talking about Vidaarth’s role, he says, “He plays a 58-year-old policeman who gets involved in a case just when he is close to retirement. He is not so heroic like movie cops, and gets injured a lot. In fact, he has sustained so many injuries over the course of his career that he cannot walk properly and his hands shake a lot.”
Roshini Prakash, who is acting in Bala’s Vanangan, plays the female lead — a young, newbie police officer. This character has to perform stunts with no ropes or dupe. I needed an actress who is fit like an IPS officer. Since Roshini is a nationallevel athlete, she fit the part,” says the director.
How the elderly cop and rookie track the psycho killer forms the plot of the film, he adds. Rajeev Anand, a theatre artiste, who has played minor roles in films like Sarpatta Parambarai, plays the antagonist.
The director reveals that he has completed 50 per cent of the shoot of the film, which is set in Chennai, especially in the ECR and OMR areas.
Ghibran is scoring the music for the film. “Ghibran has been my friend even before Vaagai Sooda Vaa. We are planning to have a couple of songs,” Manimaran says. SR Sathish Kumar, who has shot Peraanamai, Bhooloham, and Maeghamann, is the cinematographer.
