Renowned filmmaker Surya Kiran, known for his directorial ventures such as 'Satyam' (2003) and 'Dhana 51' (2005), died in Chennai on Monday, March 11. The 48-year-old director reportedly battled jaundice for several years before passing away from the condition.

Born in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, Surya Kiran began his career in the entertainment industry as a young actor, making appearances in more than 200 Telugu and Tamil films as Master Suresh. He has acted in films 'Kadal Meengal', 'Mangamma Sabadham', 'Manithan', 'Swayam Krushi', and 'Khaidi No 786'.

His romantic comedy directing debut, 'Satyam', which starred Genelia and Sumanth, made a splash at the box office and captivated viewers. Following this success, Surya Kiran directed films such as 'Raju Bhai' (2007), 'Brahmastram' (2006), and 'Chapter 6' (2010).

Meanwhile, on the personal front Surya Kiran was briefly married to actor Kaveri and they parted ways after a while.
