'Veera Dheera Sooran' to 'Dragon': Recent Tamil films that faced a delay

Tamil cinema has witnessed several last-minute postponements that left fans disappointed. These unexpected delays often occur due to legal issues, financial disputes, or post-production hurdles. Sometimes, filmmakers push the release to avoid box office clashes, while in other cases, last-minute censor certification troubles cause delays. With fans eagerly awaiting their favorite stars' films, such postponements can lead to frustration and speculation. Here are some recent delays of Tamil films that shocked fans.

'Veera Dheera Sooran'

Chiyaan Vikram’s 'Veera Dheera Sooran' was all set for a grand release on March 27, 2024. However, on the day of release, the Delhi High Court imposed a four-week stay due to a legal dispute with Ivy Entertainment over financial agreements and digital rights. Fans who had booked tickets were left frustrated as the film’s screenings were abruptly canceled. But the makers fought hard to sort out the issue, and the shows for the action entertainers started from evening shows across locations.

'Dragon'

Initially locked for release on Feb 14, Pradeep Ranganathan's 'Dragon' was postponed to February 21 to avoid clashing with Ajith's Vidaamuyarchi,' which was released on February 6. Pradeep humorously acknowledged the delay, showing respect for Ajith. Meanwhile Dhanush's 'Nilavukku En Mel Ennadi Kobam' had also shifted to February 21, which led to a box-office clash with 'Dragon.'

4/5

'Sabdham'

Aadhi Pinisetty’s much-anticipated horror thriller 'Sabdham' was originally slated for release on Feb 28, 2024. Unfortunately, the Tamil version of the film faced technical issues, and it caused the film a delayed release. The delay came as a surprise to fans who were eagerly waiting to witness the film’s spine-chilling horror elements on the big screen. However, the makers reacted quickly, and 'Sabdham' Tamil was released a day later on March 1.

5/5

'Asthram'

The Tamil investigative thriller 'Asthram,' starring Shaam and directed by Aravind Rajagopal, was set for release on March 7 but has been postponed. Despite positive early reviews, the film faced hurdles in securing adequate theater screens due to multiple releases in the same week. To ensure a wider reach, the makers decided to delay the release. However, the film was successfully released on March 24 and received better reviews from the audiences.
