The Film Federation of India announced on Monday that the Bollywood film 'Laapatta Ladies' has been selected as India's official submission for Oscars 2025 under the Best International Feature Film category.

Soon social media was abuzz, discussing the reason for the seletion. While some hailed 'Laapatta Ladies', others wondered if the movie had what it took to bag Gold. Tamil director Vasanta Balan was among the latter who expressed his concern over the rejection of films like 'Kottukkaali', 'Ullozhukku', and 'Aadujeevitham'.


Balan took to social media to raise a question over the selection of 'Laapatta Ladies', a feel-good drama over some critically acclaimed films that were among the 29 contending to represent India on the world stage. Fans also join Vasanta Balan to share their thoughts about the film.

'Thangalaan', 'Maharaja', 'Kottukkaali', 'Vaazhai', 'Jigarthanda DoubleX', and 'Jama' were the Tamil films, along with 23 other films from across languages, in the running for Oscars consideration.
