Vani Bhojan’s film debut: plays a fisherwoman in N4
Vani Bhojan of Deivamagal fame is all set to make her film debut in director Lokesh Kumar’s N4. The director of My Son Is Gay fame will be making a commercial film with Vani in the lead. Lokesh says, “It is a thriller set in Kasimedu. There is a place called N4 near Kasimedu. The incidents that unfold in that slum will be the crux. The story revolves around the people there and the circumstances they face.” Ask him why he chose Vani, and he says, “My assistant directors told me about her.

I heard that she was on a break from television, and was listening to scripts. When I met her, I felt she’d be apt for the role. She plays the role of a fisherwoman; we didn’t want to cast a mainstream heroine as we wanted someone who can do proper ground work. Also, Vani is a household name, so, people will be able to relate to her and it is easier to convey the message, too.”
Vani, too, is excited. “I heard several scripts, but I loved this project. Also, I saw Lokesh’s award-winning film My Son Is Gay. He is a fantastic storyteller. I don’t get to wear makeup in the film (laughs). I hardly wore makeup for Deivamagal either. For a character like this, it is only fair I play the part with perfection. We are planning to begin rehearsals from June 15. I need to pick up the Kasimedu slang and their body language,” she says. The team will begin shooting from the end of July or early August.
