Veteran Tamil actor Vadivelu appeared before the Master Court to provide testimony in the defamation case he filed against fellow actor Singamuthu. Vadivelu had earlier approached the Madras High Court, seeking Rs 5 crore in damages, alleging that Singamuthu had made defamatory statements about him during interviews given to various YouTube channels. In his petition, Vadivelu also requested the court to issue an order restraining Singamuthu from making any further derogatory remarks against him.
According to News 18, the High Court had transferred the case to the Master Court specifically to record witness statements. As per the court’s directive, Vadivelu appeared in person to provide his testimony. During the hearing, he stepped into the witness stand and formally submitted his statements, detailing the impact of the alleged defamatory remarks on his reputation. His testimony is expected to play a crucial role in the case, as it directly supports his claims of defamation and the need for financial compensation.
Meanwhile, Singamuthu’s legal counsel submitted a petition requesting permission to cross-examine Vadivelu. In addition, the defense team sought a two-week adjournment to prepare and conduct the cross-examination. This move was likely aimed at scrutinizing Vadivelu’s claims and challenging his allegations in court.
However, the judge rejected the request for postponement and ruled that the case would be transferred back to the High Court for further proceedings. The judge stated that any petitions related to cross-examination must be submitted to the High Court, making it clear that the primary legal battle would now continue at the higher judicial level. With the case back in the High Court, further developments are awaited regarding Singamuthu’s defense and the final verdict on the defamation claims.
