Karthi's film 'Vaa Vaathiyaar', which was scheduled to release on December 12 faced an unexpected problem due to an interim stay imposed by the Madras High Court. With fans left greatly disappointed, there has been an update about the film's new release date.
According to the latest report from Filmibeat, the team is actively planning to release the film on December 24 to coincide with the anniversary of revolutionary leader Dr. M.G. Ramachandran, who is fondly called Vaathiyaar by fans. This decision assumes significance as this date emotionally fits the theme of the film and the character of the protagonist, Karthi.
Nalan Kumaraswamy's comeback after an eight-year gap
‘Vaa Vaathiyaar’ is directed by Nalan Kumaraswamy, who has directed successful films like ‘Soodhu Kavvum’ and ‘Kadhalum Kaddu Pogum’, and he has returned to directing after eight years with this film. Along with Karthi, prominent stars including Krithi Shetty, Rajkiran, and Sathyaraj have acted in the film. In the film, which has music composed by Santhosh Narayanan, Karthi's portrayal of a passionate fan of revolutionary leader MGR is seen as a notable feature. The film, which had been in production for over two years, finally excited fans with its release announcement.
Financial issues halts the release of 'Vaa Vaathiyaar'
But financial problems surrounding producer Gnanavelraja became a major obstacle to the film's release. He reportedly took a loan of Rs 10 crores a few years ago. The court was informed that the amount, including interest, has now increased to 21 crore 78 lakh 50 thousand rupees. On December 10, the Madras High Court ordered that the film ‘Vaa Vaathiyaar’ should not be released in theaters and on OTT platforms until this amount is paid in full. As a result, the film's December 12 release was officially postponed.
'Vaa Vaathiyaar' a tribute to MGR
Reports have emerged that the producer and actor Karthi's team are making a serious effort to end the debt issue as soon as possible. If all goes well, 'Vaa Vaathiyaar' is expected to be released in theaters on December 24 – MGR's memorial day.
