Abhirami is one of the actresses who adopted a screen name after stepping into showbiz. Her real name is
Divya. Abhirami started her cinema journey as a child artist and made her debut in the 1995 Malayalam film 'Kathapurushan', which was directed by
Adoor Gopalakrishnan. Later, she made her Tamil debut with the film 'Vaanavil', wherein she starred opposite Action King Arjun. Following the success, she opted for challenging roles instead of glamorous ones and developed her territory by making her Telugu and Kannada debut too.

Abhirami played the female lead in
Kamal Haasan's 'Virumaandi', and her role as a bold village belle won praise from audiences and critics. Despite the success, the talented actress, decided to relocate to the US, after completing graduation in psychology and communications.

Abhirami stayed away from the limelight for about ten years, and made a comeback with the 2014 Malayalam film 'Apothecary', wherein she played a supporting role. Her last release in Tamil was the 2021 action thriller 'Sulthan’ starring Karthi.
