Mumtaj was just 19 when she made her acting debut with the 1999 release Tamil film 'Monisha En Monalisa', which was directed by T Rajendar. Mumtaj then started doing movies across South Indian languages. Her supporting role in Vijay and Jyotika starrer 'Kushi' made her earn fame, and then she even made her Bollywood debut with the film 'Boond'.

Mumtaj started doing challenging roles, including glamorous ones to entertain fans. The talented actress, who is also a seasoned dancer, has won hearts for her dance numbers. However, she started to fade away from films post-2005. She later appeared on a television reality show, eventually winning hearts for her impressive personal.

Mumtaj will be next seen in 'Valaiyam' in Tamil, and the film has been under post-production for a long time. She turned 42 lately.
