Udhayanidhi Stalin's unfinished film 'Angel' sparks legal battle; producer demands Rs 25 crore

Before involving himself fully in politics, Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin was actively working on a film titled 'Angel,' directed by KS Athiyaman. The film, which began production in 2018, was being produced under Ram Saravanan’s banner. However, the project remained incomplete, with nearly 80% of the shooting finished. The remaining 20% was never completed, as Udhayanidhi moved on to other projects and later announced his retirement from acting after 'Maamannan.'. Following this, producer Ram Saravanan filed a case in the Madras High Court, alleging that Udhayanidhi had abandoned the film and caused financial losses.
In his petition, Ram Saravanan stated that 'Angel' was meant to be a major project, but due to Udhayanidhi’s failure to complete the remaining portions, the film remained unreleased, leading to significant financial setbacks. The producer demanded that Udhayanidhi either resume shooting and complete the film or compensate him with Rs 25 crore for the losses incurred. He emphasized that Udhayanidhi had continued working on Mari Selvaraj's directorial 'Maamannan' despite 'Angel' being unfinished and later declared 'Maamannan' as his last film before stepping into politics, leaving Angel in an uncertain state.
In response, Udhayanidhi Stalin’s legal team argued that the case was filed beyond the legally permissible time frame and sought its dismissal. The Madras High Court accepted this argument and ruled in favor of Udhayanidhi, rejecting Ram Saravanan’s petition. However, refusing to back down, the producer has now filed an appeal against the decision. In a recent development, the court has ordered Udhayanidhi to submit a response regarding the matter, keeping the legal battle ongoing. The case has now gained attention, with many closely watching how Udhayanidhi will address the issue as he continues his political journey.
