A day before the release of Kamal Haasan's magnum opus Viswaroopam the Madras High Court has banned the release the film for two weeks in Tamil Nadu citing 'law and order' reasons. Commissioner of Police issued an order directing the theatre owners not to screen the film to ensure peace in the state.Viswaroopam was scheduled to release on Jan 25th (Friday) across the state, but the much awaited Kamal Haasan magnum opus starring Kamal Haasan, Pooja Kumar and Andrea Jeremiah in lead roles will have to wait for while to hit the screens.
This kind of cultural terrorism will have to stop: KamalThe move to ban the release of the film came after allegations made by some Muslim organisations that the film has portrayed their religion in poor light. The film has been facing problems over its release ever since it was first planned to release for Pongal when the theatre owners protested the DTH premiere.
The film was also supposed to release in Telugu on Jan 25th and in Hindi on Feb 1st. Now it looks like the Kamal fans have to wait for the film a little longer or see if the Ulaganayagan makes some arrangements to release it as planned.
Meanwhile, Actor-director Kamal Hassan will take legal course against ban on the screening of his film Vishwaroopam, saying that such "cultural terrorism" should stop.
