Tricked or what? Mersal magician claims he hasn’t been paid in full

Canada-based magician Raman Sharma has alleged that Thenandal Films, the production house behind Vijay’s Mersal, is yet to pay him in full for the work he did on the film. In the film, one of Vijay’s characters is that of a magician, and Raman had trained the actor for a few tricks he performs in the film.
In a video that he put out on his Twitter page, the magician says, “I gave five months of my life to Mersal.And here I am in Canada, 14 months, 15 almost, since the movie has released and I still haven’t gotten paid… It’s been a very, very stressful process for me to try and get my money back from these guys. When I met them, they were super sweet, and in fact, I never hesitated once about the five times I had to come to India, forgetting my family in Canada, so that I could help the movie be the best movie it could be. I gave a lot of myself. And 14 months later, the head, Mr R Murali, is ignoring my phone calls. In August, when I reached out to him, one last time, I got this message, ‘Good morning, Raman. Just seen your message. Will talk to the manager regarding the payment. Will clear before this month. Will ask Shenthil to coordinate with you. Sorry for the inconvenience caused.’ Since then I’ve been to India and called up these guys, but they don’t answer my calls. They hang up when I call. And do you know what the interesting thing is? This movie has to do with ethics and corruption. How ethical is this?”
Raman goes on to add that there is over `4 lakh that he is owed by the production house, including the legal fees that he has had to pay to get his legal representatives to reach out to them. A source in the production house, who did not wish to be quoted, told us that Raman has been paid a certain amount, and if there is some balance, it will be looked into and settled after we cross check the process of payment (to the middleman, etc) we followed.
