Ponniyin Selvan

Directed by Mani Ratnam, ‘Ponniyin Selvan’ is a historic epic drama that portrays the rise of Chola dynasty. Aishwarya Rai plays the role of Nandhini Devi, the antagonist. Aishwarya plays a negative role in the movie and is described as a treacherous and poisonous queen. Aishwarya Rai played her role with grace and poise and she was critically acclaimed. The film was released on September 30, 2022 and is still running in theatres successfully after 30 days. The film has made a gross of Rs 500 crore at the box office and is the biggest Kollywood blockbuster of the year.

Raavanan

Directed by Mani Ratnam, ‘Raavanan’ was a Tamil and Hindi bilingual film and was released as ‘Raavan’ in Hindi. The film starred Vikram, Aishwarya Rai and Prithviraj in Tamil and Vikram, Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan in Hindi. The film’s story was touted to be the modern-day Ramayana. The film was announced in 2008 and it was released on June 18, 2010. The film was a huge success and it made a gross of Rs 60 crore at the box office.

Guru

Directed by Mani Ratnam, ‘Guru’ was made in Hindi and dubbed in Tamil. The film starred Abishek Bachchan in the lead role alongside Aishwarya Rai. The story of the film is touted to be the biography of Dhirubhai Ambani, but Mani Ratnam claims that it’s his fiction ideology. The film was released on January 12, 2007 and it was successful. The film made a gross of Rs 85 crore at the box office.

Iruvar

Directed by Mani Ratnam, Iruvar featured Aishwarya Rai in dual roles along with Mohan Lal and Prakash Raj as the lead. The movie was released in 1997 and it received National Awards. The film was an inspiration from the lives of politicians M Karunanidhi, J Jayalalithaa and MG Ramachandran. The film received a lot of positive reviews and is still considered to be one of the favourites of Mani Ratnam.
