This Kovai director's film is a tribute to Thalaivar

When debutant director Ramu Chellappa narrated the script of his maiden venture Engitta Modhathey to Soundarya Rajinikanth, little did he expect that he would receive wishes from the Superstar himself.

���After watching Sasikumar���s Subramaniapuram, I always wanted to make a film set in the ���80s. That���s how I zeroed in on the script of Engitta Modhathey, which revolves around a Rajinikanth fan played by Natty (Natarajan Subramaniam). The film is set in the ���80s in Tirunelveli and Natty plays a cut-out artist, who incidentally makes cutouts of the actor. So, when I narrated the script to Soundarya during a meeting, she liked it and said that she had informed the Superstar about the film. The plot revolves around how Rajini and Kamal Haasan fans celebrated their heroes during the era. Rajaji of Moodar Koodam fame plays the Kamal fan. Sanchita Shetty and Parvathy Nair play the love interests of both actors respectively,��� says Ramu.


Though Engitta Modhathey might be ready to hit screens now, the journey was not a cakewalk for the Coimbatore filmmaker. ���Getting into the film industry was no easy task. I have been writing scripts for a long time now. I moved to Chennai looking for a break in the industry and finally got an opportunity to work as an associate to director Pandiraj in Vamsam, Kedi Billa Killadi Ranga and Pasanga. I also worked as an assistant to director Selvaraghavan in Mayakkam Enna. Engitta Modhathey happened soon after and Natty immediately agreed to be part of the film.��� The director adds that the title has no connection to the 1990 film of the same name. ���This title was intriguing and I thought it would reach the masses. Moreover, since it deals with hero workshop, it was an apt choice.���


The star cast for Engitta Modhathey includes Radha Ravi and RK Vijai Murugan, who played the lead villain in Goli Soda. Music for the film is by Natarajan Sankaran and cinematography is by MC Ganesh Chandra of Salim fame. Lastly, Ramu confesses that he himself is a fan of the Superstar. ���I admire the works of both Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan,��� he says. The film is expected to hit screens soon after the Tamil Nadu election.
