After Brahma.com, director Purus Vijayakumar is all set to start work on his next. Titled Kangu, the film is set in two time periods and will feature a host of newcomers, along with
Sakshi Agarwal, Ramakrishnan,
Radha Ravi and Vivek Prasanna.
The director says, “Kangu is basically the spark that’s still alive in a coal even after the fire is extinguished. It’s a pure Tamil word that’s predominantly used in the southern parts of the state; they still say aduppula kangu irukku paaru.
The title is apt for the film because the story is related to fire.”
Vijayakumar says he has been working on the script for over two years, as it involved a lot of research. “I had to gather evidences and check records, and I had to work carefully on the script because I didn’t want to hurt people’s sentiments,” the director says.
While the pooja of the film is scheduled to happen today, the film will go on floors from August 15. “We will be shooting in Mannargudi, Kumbakonam, Courtallam and Chennai,” he says, adding, “There are no heroes in this film. Four 20-year-old boys will play important roles. I auditioned a lot of youngsters and finally chose Ajay, Sakthi, Vignesh and Vijay for the characters. In fact, Vijay is action choreographer Jaguar Thangam master’s son and I got to know about it only after I cast him in the film.”
Vijayakumar tells us that the film will be set in 1968 and 1988. “Ramakrishnan is doing a cameo of sorts. He comes in the flashback portion and his role is very powerful. Sakshi will be part of the 1988 sequences,” he signs off.
