The much-hyped Sathyaraj and KS Ravikumar’s movie shelved

In May 2020, it was announced that

KS Ravikumar

will get back to direction with a movie starring Sathyaraj and the same will be produced by

RB Choudhary

. This was also a move to stop movies opting for OTT launch instead of theatre releases during the

lockdown phase

. It was planned that the film would be produced on a profit-sharing basis so that instead of remuneration Ravikumar and Sathyaraj would get a share from the profits and distribution. The makers planned a 30-day schedule with a two-crore budget and they said the movie would release in theatres and it would be given for OTT release after 100 days. Vijay Sethupathi and Parthipan were supposed to be doing cameos in the movie. The entire project was conceptulaised in such a way so that the ailing theatres would get a new lease of life.

However, now, Tirupur Subramaniam, head of TN Theatre Owners’ Association, who was behind the concept has told that the project has been shelved. Revealing more details about it, he said, because of the extended lockdown and the pandemic, they could not roll the film as expected and though they had taken remake rights of two Telugu movies, they could not remake it as one movie resembled a lot like Ponmagal Vanthal, which was not very well-received.
He has now said that he plans to come to Chennai in three months' time to discuss and finalise a brand-new project. He also said that for the Sathyaraj-Ravikumar project, he has taken no money from anyone, so far.
