The unit of director G N R Kumaravelans Haridas, which stars Kishore and Sneha in the lead, had quite a horrifying accident recently. The team was returning to the shores after shooting in the middle of the sea in Dhanushkodi, when one of the boats they were travelling in capsized by a high-rising wave. Recounting the experience, Kumaravelan says, The tide was low when we shot the song sequence, but as we were returning to the shore, the tide rose and we had a huge wave crashing onto the boat.
Kishore, cinematographer Rathnavelu and the eight-year-old Prithviraj (who plays the central character in the film) and I were flung into the sea, along with other members of the team, after the boat capsized. While Kishore and Rathnavelu, who were good swimmers, managed to swim to the shore, Prithviraj and I had to hold on tightly to the boat until the local fishermen came to our rescue.
In hindsight, the director admits the error of his decision to shoot far into the sea as he had not realized the danger that he was putting the cast and crew into. Since I had shot a similar song for
Ninaithale Inikkum, I wanted to do something new and so suggested that we go out further into the sea to shoot this song. But, even the locals were surprised by how rapidly the tide rose that day. Despite the disaster, the director adds that his unit stayed on to complete the shoot.
