The chemistry between the father and son is crackling in Antony: Nishanth
Actor Nishanth, who is all set to make his debut with the musical emotional thriller Antony, is excited about his maiden venture. Nishanth plays a cop in the film, which is loaded with action and intense drama. “I play a sub inspector in Antony. But, I was more anxious about playing veteran Malayalam director and actor Lal’s son. I heard that many people had auditioned for the role and I was quite nervous.

But, Lal Sir was quite friendly and was all praise for my work. I learnt a lot from him pertaining to acting and was stunned by his conviction towards the character. The chemistry between the father and son is crackling in the film. Veteran actress Rekha plays my mother. We bonded like a house on fire on the sets. She took good care of me as well,” says Nishanth, who was in Coimbatore recently.
Interestingly, Nishanth’s character in his maiden venture is named after the popular character Antony played by the late actor Raghuvaran in Baasha. “In fact, the movie itself is a tribute to the actor. Raghuvaran Sir would switch from one emotion to another with ease and would show a gamut of expressions in a short span of time. Just like him, I too have tried to bring out variations in my character. I told the film’s director Kuttii Kumar that I would train and perform for him first. If he was convinced, we would go ahead. Fortunately, he liked what I did and we went ahead with the shoot. I also prepped well for my role as a cop with fitness and mind exercises. The film has been predominantly shot in Kodaikanal,” says Nishanth, who is open to playing different roles on screen. Antony has music by Coimbatore-based R Sivatmikha and the film is expected to hit screens in January. In the meantime, Nishanth has wrapped up work on a black comedy made by a bunch of former students from Coimbatore. “The story happens in one night but there are lots of twists and turns in it. “ He is also in talks for a gangster drama.
