'Thalapathy 69': Is Vijay's film with H Vinoth the remake of a Telugu blockbuster? Here's what we know

Thalapathy Vijay, the leading South actor, has announced his next with director H Vinoth, and the film has been tentatively titled 'Thalapathy 69'. After completing the filming of this movie, Vijay has planned to venture into politics fully, and hence the expectations for the film has peaked well. Several speculations about cameos and special tracks in the film have been doing the rounds on the internet since then, but the makers have not confirmed any of these speculations. A recent report that went viral around 'Thalapathy 69' is that the Vijay starrer will be a remake of the 2023 Telugu film 'Bhagavanth Kesari', which had Nandamuri Balakrishna in the lead role. The recent reports emerged after the makers of 'Thalapathy 69' acquired the remake rights for the Telugu film 'Bhagavanth Kesari'. Social media discussions have hinted at Vijay reprising Balakrishna's role, with Mamitha Baiju playing his daughter.

However, a source close to the production has dismissed these rumors to Cinema Vikatan3, stating, "There’s no truth to it. Thalapathy 69 is not a remake of Bhagavanth Kesari. It is an original action film, and the rumors spreading on social media are baseless."

'Thalapathy 69' is shaping up to be a grand commercial entertainer featuring an ensemble cast that includes Pooja Hegde, Bobby Deol, Mamitha Baiju, Priyamani, and Prakash Raj. With music composed by Anirudh Ravichander, the mega-budget film is being shot extensively in Chennai, promising a cinematic spectacle. It is set for a record-breaking theatrical release in October 2025, with fans eagerly awaiting Vijay's next big-screen performance.
