T-town's new mantra

With an upcoming film showcasing five glam babes,TOI gets you T-towns latest fad of going in for more than one leading lady
T-town's new mantra
A bevy of babes to glam up a film is an old trick that T-towns dream merchants seem to be relying on these days. Director Boyapati Srinu had three heroines in smashing hit Simha, followed by director Vamsi Paidipalli who roped in Kaajal and Samantha for his NTR starrer Brindavanam and topping them all is veteran director P Vasu, who has pencilled in five heroines including Anushka, Kamalinee Mukherjee, Richa Gangopadhyay, to be paired opposite leading star Venkatesh.
1x1 polls

Its an open secret that the directors use one of them for a performance-oriented role and the others to lure the masses, but actor Venkatesh negates it saying, Its not a commercial film where the protagonist will be romancing all the heroines on screen, rather its a unique film and every character has relevance in this well-knitted script.
Likewise, Sneha Ullal, doesnt mind sharing screen space with Nayanthara and Namitha in Simha. The whole film revolved around me, so I took up this multi-starrer. I like to share screen space with my colleagues, if the role is meaty enough, she quips.
Even in the past, T-town stars like Chiranjeevi (Indra, Gharana Mogudu), Venkatesh (Intlo Illalu Vantitlo Priyuralu, Sundara Kanda), Nagarjuna (Vikki Dada, Allari Alludu) Balakrishna (Bobbilli Simham and Narasimhanaidu) also went through the dilemma of choosing the ideal match on screen among two or three love interests.
Among the Gen X stars, NTR Jr had a couple of two-heroine films and now returns to romance two heroines again in Brindavanam. Both of them have equally good roles and its all about how these two girls influence my life, said NTR. Ram Charan Tej too, justifies two heroines in Orange as he will be sharing screen space with Genelia and Shazhan Padamsee. One role is contemporary and the other girl comes in the flashback and both the roles are crucial for the script, he reasons.

Even Varun Sandesh joins the bandwagon and hes all set to handle two girls Saranya Mohan and Vega Tamotia in Happy Happyga. My character is flamboyant and bubbly and has enough weightage in the story. I have no issues about doing two-heroine films, provided my role is meaty, says Vega Tamotia, a debutante.
Supporting her view, Samantha, the find of the season, doesnt mind sharing footage with Kaajal in Brindavanam. Isnt she wary of Kaajal making mincemeat of her? No such worries, since we are essaying well-etched roles and I also wanted to be associated with a big-ticket movie, she points out.
Director Neelakanta feels that the old formula of having more than one heroine will work if the roles of the actresses are justified. If the script demands more actresses, then you have to take them. In my film Missamma, both the actresses Bhumika and Laya justified their presence. However, some directors rope in actresses to just add to the glam quotient but it cant compensate for a good script, he says, cautioning dream merchants to rope in more actresses only if it is a necessity and not to just generate unnecessary hype.
