According to the actor, Phoenix will be an action-based sports entertainer. “In the film, I play an innocent character who is fighting for his survival. He will come across as a boy next door, but the trump card is that he is an MMA fighter.”

On how he ended up being part of the film, Surya shares, “At one point, I was depressed and didn’t belive in myself. I was 120kg then. The only person who believed in me then was Anl Arasu master. Years ago, I met him on the set of Sangathamizhan, then later during the shoot of Jawan and Maharaja. It was after Maharaja that he called appa and said that I would be apt for this role in his film.”

He refers to being part of the film as a beautiful journey and adds, “I’m just starting to learn acting. The director and the senior artistes who are part of the film never made me feel like a debutant. On the contrary, they really motivated me.”

As he is playing the role of an MMA fighter, Surya says that he had to train hard for a year to be able to perform the stunts with conviction. He says, “In films, you have to act as if you’ve punched a person without actually hurting them. Initially, it was difficult to figure that out, but I soon got the knack of it.”

'I don’t talk much about films to my father'Ask Surya if his father Vijay Sethupathi had given him any acting inputs, he says, “My father doesn’t really give any tips. He came once to the set, and that too to meet Anl master. I don’t talk much about films to him because if I follow my father’s ideology, I will also do the same things as he does.”
