Suriya and Shankar to do a film based on the novel Velpari

Tamil cinema has shifted its focus to making some of the classic novels into movies. ‘Ponniyin Selvan' and 'Viduthalai' are upcoming Tamil movies based on novels, and the expectations are huge for the film. Now, the latest report suggests that Suriya and Shankar are planning to team up for a film based on the novel Velpari. Suriya has recently hinted about doing a film on Velpari novel at the 'Viruman' audio launch that happened in Madurai. Su Venkatesan has reportedly started working on building the film story, and the historical film of Suriya is to be directed by Shankar.

Director Shankar and Suriya will be joining for the first time to make the film based on the historical novel, and the estimated budget for the film is said to be around Rs 1000 crores. The film is going to be made across languages, and the official announcement regarding the new film will arrive once the team builds the initial platform for the project. 'Velpari', which is written by Su Venkatesan, tells the story of the Great Tamil King Pari and what was the reason for the Chera, Chola, and Pandyan triads to wage war on the small country of Parambu.

Meanwhile, Suriya is currently part of the films 'Vanangan', 'Vaadivaasal', and 'Suriya 42', and the films are at different stages of production. On the other hand, director Shankar is also busy filming for 'Indian 2' and 'RC 15' simultaneously.
