Stray Dog Issue: Aishwarya Rajesh opposes Supreme Court order, says “Stray dogs are family too”
As the nuisance caused to people by stray dogs across the country is increasing day by day, the rabies virus, which is spread through dog bites, has caused fear. In particular, there have been a number of incidents of stray dog attacks in Delhi. In view of this, the Supreme Court conducted a suo motu inquiry and ordered the capture and sheltering of all stray dogs in residential areas. The court also ordered that stray dogs across the country be controlled within eight weeks.
Various actresses also shared their views on the issue. Actress Sada posted a tearful video saying that this order will lead to mass killing of street dogs. Following this, actresses Vedhika and Kanika also voiced their opposition. They were adamant that such a move disregards the safety of animals. In this situation, actress Aishwarya Rajesh also expressed her opinion. Speaking with the Press and Media during a public event, as per News 18 she said “Everyone loves animals. Many people especially consider stray dogs as family members. It's not right to break that connection with them. The feelings of the animals should also be considered," she said, emphasizing that he did not support the court order. Thus, while attempts are being made to resolve the problem of stray dogs legally, it has been met with opposition from a humanitarian perspective, causing a stir.
Although the verdict was a relief to the public, it caused great discontent among animal lovers and dog lovers. Animal welfare activists strongly opposed the Supreme Court order. Hundreds of people took part in the protest in Chennai. Many film industry celebrities, including director Vasanth, actress Vinothini, and actress Ammu, participated and expressed their condemnation.
