The Gautham Karthik-Lakshmi Menon-starrer Sippai, directed by
Saravanan of Silambattam fame, went on floors in 2013, but got stalled due to financial issues. Now, the film is getting revived and Saravanan is all set to shoot the pre-climax portions and a couple of songs, during a 15-day schedule.
“The delay was only due to financial issues. Now, a new producer, Thanigaivelan, has taken over the project, and we have started the preliminary work for the shoot.
We will shoot for two weeks in the next month and wrap up the project. The dubbing is also done, so once we finish this shoot, the film will be almost ready to release,” says Saravanan, who adds that his cast and crew are also raring to complete the film.
“Gautham has become attached to this project and,
Lakshmi, too, is eager to complete this.
Yuvan Shankar Raja, with whom I worked in Silambattam, has been understanding of the delay. He has given me the songs already,” he says.
The film, he says, stresses on the message that students should have social awareness, but in the format of a commercial entertainer. He elaborates, “In fact, even the original script had a protest like the recent Marina jallikattu protest as the climax. And this was two-and-a-half years ago! When society faces a problem, everyone should become a sippai (soldier) and fight to solve it, is what the film says.”
