'Soorarai Pottru' dominates 68th National Film Awards: Suriya, Aparna Balamurali, GV Prakash Kumar, and Sudha Kongara win awards

The 68th National Film Awards have been announced today. 295 feature films were submitted for the 68th National Film Awards under several categories. 'Soorarai Pottru' dominated the 68th National Awards, as Suriya, Aparna Balamurali, GV Prakash Kumar, and Sudha Kongara won top awards. 'Soorarai Pottru' won five categories - Best Actor (Suriya), Best Actress (Aparna Balamurali), Best Background Score (GV Prakash Kumar), Best Screenplay (Shalini Usha Nair and Sudha Kongara), and Best feature film (Sudha Kongara).

After failing to make it to the final nomination for Oscars, 'Soorarai Pottru' has finally managed to bagged several awards at the 68th National Film Awards.

Directed by Sudha Kongara, 'Soorarai Pottru' featured Suriya and Aparna Balamurali in lead roles, and the film story is based on the life story of Air Deccan founder GR Gopinath. GV Prakash Kumar scored the music, and the film skipped the theatrical release and had a direct-to-digital premiere.

The awards have been announced for the films that got released in 2020 when several movies got postponed due to the pandemic's spread. Meanwhile, director Vasanth, actress Lakshmi Priya Chandramouli, editor Sreekar Prasad and director Madonne Ashwin from Kollywood have also bagged awards for 'Sivaranjiniyum Sila Pengalum' and 'Mandela' films respectively.
