Kollywood fans are among the die-hard fans in the country, and celebrate their heroes like no other. While fans of contemporary stars like
Rajinikanth,
Ajith and
Vijay celebrating their idols' films is a common sight, fans of yesteryear stars celebrating the re-release of their star's film in a grand way happens only rarely.
This weekend, the Sivaji Ganesan-starrer Vasantha Maligai, which first hit screens on September 29, 1972, has been re-released in a digitised version. And even after 46 years, Sivaji fans are celebrating it just like how a new film's release is celebrated. Distributor V Nagaraja, who has released the film, says, "The film has managed to get a good opening, and audiences are applauding for each and every scene. I am hopeful that
Vasantha Maligai
will collect an amount equal to the new releases this week."
A romance drama, the film has
Vanisri playing the film lead with K Balaji, Major Sundarrajan, Nagesh and SV Ramadoss in crucial roles. It is considered one of the biggest blockbusters of
Sivaji Ganesan. The film's music was by
KV Mahadevan
, and interestingly, the film's re-release happened on June 21, the day when the great composer passed away, in 2001.
The film had earlier been re-released on March 8, 2013.
