Shwetha Menon, one-time Bollywood glam girl who turned into an actress of substance in Malayalam cinema, is now in the news for the wrong reasons. The actress, who won the Filmfare Award for her superb performance as a commercial sex worker in Ranjiths brilliant period film Paleri Manikyam, is fretting and fuming. The posters of her new film, Kayam, opposite Tamil actor Bala are being used by its producer to promote a sex stimulant and steroid! Talking exclusively to BT, a peeved Swetha Menon said, Ive decided to take legal action against the producer for promoting a sexual steroid pill using my stills from the film.
A court in Ernakulam has already ordered the authorities concerned to inquire into my complaint.
The actress has also complained to the powerful Kerala Womens Commission.A visibly angry Shwetha said, It is a slur on my image. The producer has, as part of the films promotion campaign, gone for a tie-up with the company that makes the sex stimulant without my consent. A still from a song from the movie has been taken out of context and used in the poster ad of the product, which has been pasted across Kerala. It gives the impression that Im its brand ambassador and am endorsing the sex stimulant. It clearly amounts to misrepresentation of women and is a criminal offence.Follow us on Twitter for more stories
