Shruti Haasan, who celebrates her birthday today, tells TOI about her films and birthday plans...
Shruti Haasan to celebrate b'day with family
The New Year has begun on a jubilant note for Shruti Haasan.
The actress has been getting rave reviews for her performance in her debut Telugu film, Anaganaga O Dheerudu (AOD), which hit screens recently. Shes also been busy shuttling between Chennai, Mumbai, Hyderabad and a few foreign countries for 7am Arivu and Madhur Bhandarkars next. Whats more, she is also celebrating her birthday today with her family after almost three years!
The AOD experience...
1x1 polls

Shooting for a fantasy adventure was unique in its own way. It feels good to be part of a good film. But for me, more than the character, I was glad that people accepted my look in the film. I sport a gypsy look and wear exotic Indian costumes. But thankfully, even my look was appreciated. Many even said that they saw a new side of Shruti in the film. Now, AOD will release in Tamil as well. In fact, Ive already finished dubbing for it. And Im sure the Tamil audiences, especially children, will love the film.
Crackling chemistry?
The love story between Siddharth and me is important to the script of AOD. Though his character is vital in the film, all the other characters are interlinked. We had to make sure our chemistry worked. But that said, I would like to stress that its not the chemistry between actors that counts. Its the chemistry between the characters thats important. In a way, Im lucky that my characters in both AOD and 7am Arivu are well-etched.

Kollywood calling
Tamil cinema has given so much to my father. Its but natural that I want to do a film here as well. 7am Arivu happened at the right time. Its not an ordinary film. I have a totally different look in it, something that people havent seen before.
Chill thrill
Ive been extensively shooting for the film in Chennai and I just returned from a schedule abroad. We were shooting in Hong Kong and other countries where the climate was too cold for my liking. At heart, Im still a Chennaiite and cold weather is not something that Im used to. Id play in the hot sun but still complain about how horrible the heat in Chennai is! But, even while sleeping in an air-conditioned room, Id use two quilts! So, I was chilled to the bones while shooting there. But, with an incredible co-star like Suriya and a brilliant director like A R Murugadoss, the experience was something that Ill never forget.
Music v/s Acting
Its difficult to dedicate time for both acting and composing. I cant compose music and at the same time, travel to different parts of the world for shooting schedules. After Unnaipol Oruvan, I had to make a choice. When it came to choosing between acting and composing, I chose the former. But, I still sing, play instruments and perform in shows. Ill get back to composing after some time.
