Shoot at site: What happens when Yogi Babu falls in love?

It’s not often that we get to see Yogi Babu in a romantic avatar. But when we caught up with the crew of

Gurkha

, the shooting of which was happening indoors in AVM Studios, Yogi Babu was in full form. Director Sam Anton was seen giving instructions to cinematographer Krishnan Vasant and choreographer Sathish Krishnan, both of whom were getting ready to shoot a dream song. The actor, dressed in a rather colourful ensemble, was all set to romance Canadian model-turned-actress Elyssa Erhardt for the song. The song talks of Yogi Babu’s swag. It’s a new-age hip-hop number. Elyssa has given it her best and has exceeded my expectations with her movements. We were satisfied with what we shot and were eager to see it on the editing table the next day

It’s a dream song picturised on Babu, who works as a security guard in a mall, and a foreign girl, who works in an embassy. The former falls for the latter, and the song is the interlude at that point

“Though there was a similar song in Kolamaavu Kokila, this one will have more dance movements. It will remind audiences of the popular dream sequence between Goundamani and Nagma in Mettukudi. The funky song will have more dance movements for Elyssa. The song has been written by Vignesh ShivN and crooned by GV Prakash.”

Though billed as a comedy, Sam says Gurkha deals with a serious issue. According to him, the story is about how a funny security, who hails from a Gurkha family, saves people in a mall, which gets hijacked by terrorists. He adds, “The movie has several emotional moments, too. We needed a comedian to be the protagonist for this story. This is my third film with Yogi Babu and the role is tailor-made for him,” he says.

A dog essays a crucial character in the film, which has Ravi Mariya, Manobala, Charle, Mayilsamy and others in pivotal roles. The movie, which was wrapped up in 34 days, was shot for more than 15 days in a city mall. Raj Aryan has composed music for the film, which has been edited by Ruben.
