As we entered the elaborate set of Bomb, the second film of Sila Nerangalil Sila Manidhargal director Vishal Venkat, a crucial sequence that takes place during a thiruvizha was being shot. When we quizzed Vishal about the film, he told us, “Bomb is about two people who have always been at loggerheads, and how they unite because of two friends is what the film is about. The film talks about humans and their nature. It will be satire and will also have magical realism. We have also delved into a socio-political issue.”
Arjun Das: I’m playing a very innocent guy from a village
My character is named Manimuthu. He is very different compared to the characters I have done so far. I’m playing an innocent guy from a village. A majority of the film takes place at night, so we have mostly done night shoots. Till now, I have been shooting with all the actors separately, but everyone has come together for the first time for the thiruvizha sequence. Sharing screen space with such experienced actors has been a learning experience.
My character has an arc that a hero gets usually: Shivathmika Rajashekar
This is one of the most experimental films I have done to date. The story is thought-provoking and is emotional. I play the character Prabhavathi in the film, and I have an arc that usually a hero gets. I’m sharing the most screen space in the film with Arjun and Kaali sir. Both of them are brilliant actors and brilliant people.
This film’s story resonates quite a bit with my belief system: Abhirami
I play a Collector who is strong and is also pivotal to the story. She is one of the most levelheaded characters in Bomb and tries to bring balance to this story. The other characters are either very emotionally or politically motivated. The story of this film resonates quite a bit with my belief system. It’s a story that needs to be told given how much people interfere in other people’s private choices.
This film’s world and its story aren’t regular: Kaali Venkat
My character in the film is named Kathiravan. I’m playing Arjun Das’s friend and Shivathmika’s brother. This film’s world and its story aren’t regular. My character is someone who sees this world from an outside perspective. My performance would be different in Bomb; it’s something I haven’t done yet.
My character is a nuisance to everyone: Bala Saravanan
I’m playing YouTuber Paandi, who just wants to somehow increase his subscriber count. He thinks he is a modern man who is aware of all technologies, but that’s not the case. He thinks very highly of himself, but is a nuisance to everyone.
