Sharbani finally gets her due!

The Snegithiye actress gets chatting about her latest release...
Sharbani finally gets her due!
Her claim to fame was J P Duttas Border, in which she played the role of Suneil Shettys wife.
But despite the film (her debut) going on to become a blockbuster, her next two releases bombed at the BO. And, neither her family connections (she is Romu Mukherjees daughter, and Kajol and Rani Mukherjees cousin) nor the success of Border could help her.

Now, nearly 12 years later, the talented Sharbani Mukherjee has finally got her due. Her performance as Karthi, a Hindu upper-caste girl who elopes with a Muslim trader (played brilliantly by Prakash Bare) in national award-winning director Priyanandans Malayalam period film Sufi Paranja Katha (SPK), has come in for rave reviews.
Speaking to CT about her role, Sharbani says, I could connect with Karthi despite coming from a different milieu, background and period. I had read K P Ramanunnis novel (on which the film is based), which helped me prepare for the role. In fact, I havent gotten out of the skin of the character even now. The actress, who feels that SPK is ahead of our times despite being a period film, says, The story takes place more than 100 years ago, at a time when it was unimaginable for an upper-caste Hindu girl to run away with a Muslim.
Meanwhile, Sharbanis traditional Namboodiri attire in the movies stills has created a stir in Kerala. Says Sharbani with a smile, The costumes are revealing because the story demanded that the look be earthy and rooted. I think Malayali and Bengali women are very sexy. In a way, I was the right choice for the role. She is grateful to her director Priyanandan, the producer and hero Prakash Bare for giving her the opportunity to do a quality film that tells the story of an extraordinary woman.

On the other hand, the actress is excited about her forthcoming untitled Hindi flick directed by Sangeeth Sivan, It is based on a recent real-life incident. Im sure the film will be spoken about as it is going to be very controversial. After doing Priyadarshans Snegithiye, Sharbani is also looking forward to doing another film in Tamil.
Talking about her more famous cousins (Kajol and Rani), Sharbani clarifies that she is not jealous about their success, as is made out to be by a section of the media. She concludes, Im very proud of Kajol and Rani. We share a great bond.
