On Wednesday, fans of
Shankar and
Vikram were surprised when they came across a news circulating on social media pertaining to the remake of
Anniyan
, which the duo made in 2005. According to sources, the film will have
Ranveer Singh playing the lead role in its
Hindi
remake. In fact, the Hindi version of Anniyan, titled Aparichit, is one of the most telecast films in Hindi television channels. The super hit movie, which marked the collaboration of the director and actor for the first time, turned out to be a blockbuster across south India.
Anniyan was the first film of Shankar which didn’t have AR Rahman scoring music. However, Harris Jayaraj’s songs were instant chartbusters. Peter Hein’s action sequences was another highlight of the big-budget flick, which had Vikram enthralling the audience in three roles – Ambi, Remo and Anniyan. Vivekh, Prakash Raj, Sadha and Nedumudi Venu among others, too, received appreciation for the portrayal of their respective roles. In addition to winning eight Filmfare Awards and six State Film Awards, Anniyan also went on to win a National Award in Special Effects category.
The first remake in Shankar’s career was Vijay-Ileana-starrer Nanban, which was originally Raj Kumar Hirani’s Aamir Khan-Kareena Kapoor-starrer 3 Idiots. Movie buffs are waiting with bated breath to see if the director will do another remake. Meanwhile, his film with Ram Charan, we hear, will go on floors after May.
