Sai Pallavi's sister, Pooja to make her acting debut

Actress Sai Pallavi has become a household name after portraying the character of Malar teacher in the Malayalam blockbuster Premam opposite Nivin Pauly. Now, we hear that her little sister Pooja Kannan has donned the acting cap as well, albeit in a short film. Pooja is all set to make her acting debut with Coimbatore-based short filmmaker Ajith Ashok’s upcoming project Kaara- A ride for love.

Director Ajith, who had earlier made the short film, Bhoo, says, “Kaara is the name of an angel that depicts love. The film is an emotional drama set in Coimbatore and Pooja plays the titular character. When I penned the script for the film, I thought it would be nice if Pooja played Kaara. Pooja was being flooded with acting offers then, but we are glad she chose to act in our film. The character that she portrays is quite opposite to what she is in real life.” The film’s poster shows Pooja in a tom-boyish avatar, riding a bike. Pooja is currently pursuing her graduation at DR GR Damoradaran College of Science, Coimbatore.

Interestingly, Ajith was also a student at the same college, until he decided to discontinue his studies to pursue his passion for filmmaking. “It was challenging entering the world of films, but this is what I was interested in. The shoot for the film began in August and the post-production is on in full swing. It’s a 40-minute film that revolves around love and the entire film has been shot in and around Coimbatore. The star cast includes Vishnu Priya, Jeevitha Rajendran, Visweshwaram, Karthick Gonsalves, Naveen Roshan, Manoj Kumar, Saravanan, Ranjitha, Rehana, Anand and Gowtham. Cinematography is by Kamalesh and music is by Sumesh Kumar.”

Sai Pallavi had released the first look of the film, early this month. “In fact, she was the one, who asked Pooja to do the film. When Sai Pallavi saw portions of the film, she said it looked more like a feature film, rather than a short film. We are planning to do a teaser and audio release for the film next month as the short film comprises three songs. Kaara is expected to hit screens by the end of the year. There are talks to convert it into a full-fledged movie as well.”
