Kaali lives on the streets of Pondicherry. He dreams of a better life. He wants money and respect. His girlfriend Antre believes money is everything in life. She keeps pushing Kaali to dream big and take risks.
One day, Kaali comes face to face with his lookalike. That man is Malpe Upendra. He is rich and powerful. This meeting changes everything. Kaali sees a chance to escape his poor life. Antre also sees an opportunity that can give them instant wealth. The story moves forward with twists, fights, and emotional moments. The rest of the film shows whether Kaali succeeds and what price he has to pay for his choice.
The film focuses on identity, greed, and how one decision can change a whole life.
ETimes verdict
Apart from Arun Vijay in dual roles, Retta Thala stars Siddhi Idnani, Tanya Ravichandran, Yogi Samy, John Vijay, Hareesh Peradi, Balaji Murugadoss, and others.
The film is written and directed by Kris Thirukumaran. Music is composed by Sam CS. Cinematography is handled by Tijo Tomy, and editing is done by Anthony.
ETimes review for the film reads, "Arun Vijay commits to both roles, staying lean and intense throughout. The script just doesn't give him space beyond standard action hero moves. Siddhi Idnani provides motivation for his choices before becoming furniture. Sam CS's score is acceptable, though it could have been dialed back. Production values offer some polish. Locations vary, visuals have slickness, runtime stays under two hours. What's missing is flow. Scenes don't connect, they just happen in sequence. The film never finds a rhythm where you can settle in and believe what's happening. You finish asking what the point was. Intrigue? Character work? None of it comes through. Just generic masala mechanics grinding along without spark."
