Rathna Kumar teams up with director PS Mithran to work on the script of Karthi's 'Sardar 2'

Writer Rathna Kumar is known for his collaborations with director Lokesh Kanagaraj for the films 'Master', 'Vikram' and 'Leo'. He is now working on the script of 'Thalakvar 171' as Lokesh Kanagaraj is said to direct his next starring Rajinikanth.

While Rathna Kumar is busy with 'Thalaivar 171', he has now been reportedly roped in by director PS Mithran as a writer for the film 'Sardar 2' that stars Karthi in the lead role. The film is a sequel to the 2022 film 'Sardar' which was a commercial success. The film 'Sardar 2' is said to go on floors after a muhurat pujah on February 2. Karthi will be playing a father-son duo in the upcoming film which will be a spy flick.

On the work front, Rathna Kumar is also set to make his directorial debut. The movie will be starring Raghava Lawrence and Nayanthara in lead roles. The news regarding the film was out last year but it is yet to materialise. It is said that the film will be made under Lokesh Kanagaraj's production banner G Squad. The film is touted to be an action film.

On other hand, Lokesh Kanagaraj and Rathna Kumar went on a social media break for six months since November 2023 as the duo are working on finalsiing the script for 'Thalaivar 171'. The film will star Rajinikanth as the lead and the music is composed by Anirudh Ravichander. The makers are yet to announce the rest of the cast and crew of the film.
