Rajinikanth's 74th Birthday: Fans unveil new statue and perform rituals at Madurai's Sri Rajini temple

As Thalaivar Rajinikanth has turned 74 years, a video of a fan in Madurai pouring milk over the ‘Coolie’ actor’s idol is making the rounds on social media.



Renowned for a massive fan base for Rajinikanth, several fans from Madurai celebrated the superstar’s birthday on the last day. What took the lead was when a fan from the region took the celebrations to the next level by pouring milk on the actor’s idol. This act symbolizes purity, blessings, and prosperity from the superstar.


The statue was unveiled at the ‘Arulmigu Sri Rajini Temple’ which is situated in Madurai. Reportedly the statue is 3 feet tall and the look of the statue is similar to Rajinikanth's iconic character from the superhit film ‘Mappillai’. Along with pouring milk, special Aartis were also performed for the actor’s well-being and prosperity.


Interestingly, the Arulmigu Sri Rajni Temple is overseen by a retired Army officer named Karthik, who is also an ardent fan of Rajinikanth. Karthik established the temple out of his love and affection for the Tamil superstar and he also conducts special prayers and worship at the temple.


For those who want to know more about the temple, it is originally located in an upper room of Karthik’s house. The temple is stacked with pictures and statues of Rajinikanth. Currently, the old statue is replaced with the new ‘Mappillai’ inspired statue of the actor.


On the special day, several celebrities including Mammootty, Mohanlal, Upendra, and others shared wishes for the actor. Shah Rukh Khan penned a wish on Twitter that read, “To the coolest of the cool. The bossest of all the bosses. The man, the legend and an absolutely remarkably simple man, despite being the Superest of Stars!! Sir, thank u for inspiring us. Be healthy and know u are respected and loved too much. Have a great birthday @rajinikanth sir.”
