Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan to be chief guests at Mani Ratnam's Ponniyin Selvan audio launch

Kollywood legends Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan will be the chief guests at the most-awaited audio launch and trailer launch of Mani Ratnam's magnum opus Ponniyin Selvan - Part 1. The two top stars will be part of a grand event that will include a live performance of the songs from the film by composer AR Rahman and his orchestra.
The event will take place on September 6, 6pm at the Nehru Indoor Stadium, in Chennai.The film marks 30 years of collaboration between Mani Ratnam and AR Rahman (considered one of the best director-composer combos in Tamil cinema), who had first teamed together for Roja.
In a press statement, Siva Ananth, executive producer at Mani Ratnam's production house, Madras Talkies, writes, "During the course of the evening, in the presence of two of Indian film industry's stalwarts Mr Kamal haasan and Mr Rajinikanth, the musical genius Mr A R Rahman will perform the songs of 'Ponniyin Selvan part 1' live with his orchestra. The musical treat will be interspersed with speeches from several leading personalities of the film industry and the cast and crew and the partners of our film."
Ponniyin Selvan - Part 1, an adaptation of Tamil writer Kalki's epic five-part historical novel, stars a pan-Indian cast that includes Karthi, Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Jayam Ravi, Shobita Dhulipala, Sarath Kumar, Radhakrishnan Parthiban, Jayaram, Prakash Raj, Prabhu, Vikram Prabhu, Ashwin Kakumanu, Jayachitra, Rahman, Kishore, Lal, Mohan Raman, Vinodhini, Nizhalgal Ravi, and Arjun Chidambaram among others. Award-winning cinematographer Ravi Varman is behind the visuals of the film, which has been edited by multiple National Award-winner Sreekar Prasad.
Two songs from the film — Ponni Nadhi and Chola Chola — have already been released by the makers, and they are already on music charts. The film, which deals with a succession conflict in the Chola dynasty, is slated to hit screen on September 30 in five languages — Tamil, Hindi, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada.
