Jallikattu, the traditional bull-taming sport is underway in different parts of Tamil Nadu on the occasion of Pongal. This year, due to the pandemic, participants were asked to produce a Covid-19 negative certificate before taking part in the sport. Bull owners and tamers, who participated in Jallikattu, walked away with a number of prizes, which included gold coin, motorcycle, mobile phones, household appliances and gift hampers. Pulikulam, Kangayam, Umbalachery, Barugur and Malai Maadu are some of the popular native cattle breeds used in Jallikattu. They are trained to become swift and vigorous to take part in the sport.
