Priya's big ticket to stardom...
Model-turned-actress Priya has a reason to smile. Her first movie in Tamil, Vamanan is all set to hit the screens and she already has two movies one in Tamil and one in Telugu in her kitty.
I started modelling a few months back. But, my modelling career has been cut short and here I am, an actress! she smiles.

Three months into modelling, and this pretty lady already had producers knocking on her door. I was approached by many but I wasnt sure if I liked the scripts, she reveals. Then, how did she get the offer for doing Vamanan? I had gone to meet an ad director and bumped into cinematographer Arvind Krishna. Two days later, I got a call from director Ahmed. The next day, I met him and had a photo session for the movie. The same night, I got a call from Ahmed saying I had been chosen, she explains.
In Vamanan, she plays Dhivya, the love interest of Jai, who comes to the city, aspiring to be an actor. However, Vamanan is not her first project. I started my film career with Pugaipadam, directed by Rajesh. The movie, which is my debut film, is based on a real-life incident, she says and adds, Im also doing an untitled venture with director Shekar Kammula in Telugu.
Priya is a Chennai ponnu. I was born and brought up in Chennai and Hyderabad. But, I settled with my parents in New York, where I majored in communication studies. My grandparents asked me to come home and here I am, she says in her typical style that has a thick US accent.
In fact, I have toned down my accent. It was difficult to communicate and I had to talk really slow. But yes, I know Tamil very well and it helped me, she smiles.

Priya always knew what she wanted to do for a career. I took up communication studies because I liked the idea of fooling around with a camera. My parents were supportive and didnt have an issue with me getting into Kollywood.
And she is very clear about the roles she wants to do. I dont like the idea of wearing skimpy clothes and doing vulgar scenes. Let alone glamour, I was in jitters when I had to hold Jais hand in the movie. I wasnt very sure about the romantic scenes either. Thankfully, our romance was only to the extent of giving a hug, she giggles.
But, in reality, is she afraid of romance? No. I think boys do silly things to make girls fall in love. It might be cute, but its still silly! Like what Jai does, in the movie I mean. In reality, hes a nice boy though. But, the real romance in my life is my passion for cinema, she signs off.
