She might have made her acting debut with a Tamil flick, Vaamanan, but is it in Tollywood that actress Priya Anands priorities seem to lie? Thats going to change soon, she assures us. And thats because shell now be seen opposite Boys Siddharth in Jayendras upcoming flick titled 180.It really wasnt a conscious decision, she says, about concentrating on Tollywood, While I was waiting for good offers in Tamil to come by, I was approached by M Saravanan sirs banner to do a film in Telugu with director Shekar Kammula.
He was launching Ramanaidu sirs grandson, RaNa, and I had a vital role in it. I wasnt willing to let go of that offer. The film clicked at the BO and even now, people remember my dialogues in it! I was fortunate enough to have gotten a well-written role and a big launch in the Telugu film industry. Soon, I was approached by producer Dil Raju for a film with Ram. Numerous offers followed and I almost had to settle in Hyderabad! And then, I took off to the US to be with my parents. Now, Im back in Kollywood with 180.
Ad filmmaker Jayendras film will be a bi-lingual, shot simultaneously in Tamil and Telugu. I felt that it was a perfect film to gain a re-entry to Kollywood. Every shot was canned in both Tamil and Telugu. As I speak both languages fluently, it wasnt taxing for me. In fact, it was a new experience because, with every scene, I got the opportunity to improve my performance. And, I was thrilled to deliver dialogues in Tamil after a long time! she says excitedly.
Priya just cant stop raving about her director, Jayendra, and her co-star, Siddharth. As 180 is Jayendras first film, expectations are high. He is very knowledgeable and yet quite approachable. Thanks to him, I could see a new me, right from my looks to the way my character has shaped up.
She continues, Im paired opposite Siddharth for the first time in this film. Ive always enjoyed his performance in his other movies. Hes talented and gets involved in the process of filmmaking. He keeps reading about cinema and is passionate about his work.
Though the actress isnt willing to divulge details about the movie or her role in it, she says, Its an urban rom-com and my portions were shot in the US and Malaysia. I play a girl who reflects upon life as she goes through several ups and downs.
Shooting for 180, she feels, was a memorable experience in more than one way. Apart from working with a bunch of talented and like-minded people, I also got to spend quality time with my family as my portions in the US were shot for almost a month. It had been long since I met them and when I told them Id be shooting close to home, my mom and aunt dropped by on to the sets often. They were happy to see their daughter working hard and I was happy that they were watching me at work, she smiles.
