While Atharvaa plays a ward boy who is a kabaddi player, and a huge fan of Ajith in the film, Priya Bhavani Shankar plays a role of a teacher in Madurai. Vatsan, who was last seen in Karthi-starrer 'Kaithi' directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj is the primary antagonist in Kuruthi Aattam.

The film is a gangster film with Madurai as its backdrop. The director had earlier said that the action element may be the external layer but beyond it you would find this is a deeply emotional subject.

The film, directed by 8 Thottakal-fame Sri Ganesh, also stars Radhika, and Radha Ravi. The first look poster of the which was released earlier this year featured a bloodied Atharvaa carrying a child on his back with goons in the background. Produced by T Muruganantham, Kuruthi Aattam has music by Yuvan Shankar Raja.
