Private Bus Owners’ Association files police complaint against director-actor Cheran

Recently, well-known Tamil director and actor Cheran found himself embroiled in a public dispute with a private bus driver. The incident occurred when Cheran confronted the bus driver for excessively honking in heavy traffic, a behavior he deemed unnecessary and disruptive. The altercation, captured on video, quickly went viral, and Cheran received widespread support from fans and the public for his assertive stand against what he perceived as an unfair practice. In the wake of this incident, the Private Bus Owners' Association has taken legal action against Cheran. They filed a formal complaint at the Cuddalore police station, accompanied by CCTV footage from the bus that recorded the confrontation. According to the association, the bus driver’s salary was docked for the day due to the delays caused by the roadblock created by Cheran's actions. They have demanded that Cheran compensate the driver for the financial loss incurred.

Despite these demands, Cheran has reportedly refused to offer compensation, standing firm in his belief that his actions were justified. The police, however, have criticized Cheran’s behavior, stating that engaging in an argument on the road was inappropriate and contributed to unnecessary traffic congestion in the area. This backlash has surprised many fans, who had initially supported Cheran’s stance against the disruptive practices of some private bus drivers.

Cheran is renowned for both his acting and directing. With a career spanning three decades, Cheran delivered several critically acclaimed films, while the 2004 Tamil release 'Autograph' is often cited as one of his most significant works.
