Mani Ratnam's magnum opus historical epic film 'Ponniyin Selvan' teaser was launched on 8 July. The movie is a pan-India project and the teaser was launched in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada and Hindi by film fraternities. The teaser received much praise and has increased the interest of the audience much more towards the anticipated film.
The cast of the film stated that they were very happy to be part of the project and added that 'Ponniyin Selvan' is a film that will cherish the name of chola dynasty all over the world. However, what caught everyone's attention is that due to ill health conditions actor Vikram was not able to attend the teaser launch. Therefore now, the makers have unveiled a new video which is about the making of 'Ponniyin Selvan'. The video features actor Vikram from his dubbing session for the film. The actor is seen reciting the lines he had spoken in the teaser.

'Ponniyin Selvan' stars Jayam Ravi, Karthi, Vikram, Aishwarya Rai and Trisha in the lead roles. The cast also has Parthiban, Nassar, Jayaram, Prakash Raj, Prabhu, Vikram Prabhu and Aishwarya Lekshmi in supporting roles.
